Reading Time: 3 minutes

Big Sur has been on my list for far too long. Just up the California Highway 101, it’s the perfect escape from Southern or Northern California for a three-day weekend or entire summer.

Jessica Wright of Bon Traveler and I did this road trip in one day. From San Francisco to McWay Falls and back…we captured blue hues and the bridge muse. It’s about three and half hours each way to and from SF. It’s about six hours from Los Angeles… but well worth the trip!

A few tips for the Big Sur road trip before getting started:

Gas is up to almost $6 a gallon by Bixy Bridge, so fill her up before hitting the road (and again midway).

Meals are costly and scarce in distance, so a few packed snacks wouldn’t hurt. To wine and dine, make reservations ahead of time. The viewpoint restaurants are few, but worthy.
