Where:

West Bay Beach, Roatan, Honduras

Highlights:

The best things about West Bay Beach in Roatan are the white sand beaches, crystal clear water, and thriving coral reefs to explore. It is a major diving and snorkeling destination right off the beach. There are many tourist activities at your disposal including fishing trips, parasailing, snorkeling, SUP rentals, zip lining, eco parks, and more.

Best Time to Go:

Fall leaves the least amount of crowds and lingering best weather conditions.

Money to Spend:

In between budget & luxury. We stayed in a vacation rental, which is very common in the tourist towns of Roatan. For a studio, we paid 1000$ for two weeks. Cost of food varies from cheap local grill food at $3 a person to local cafés and restaurants costing $10-15 a person. Tour prices can be negotiated.

Exceeded Expectations // Don’t Miss:

Visit Cayos Cochinos, a chain of islands, and Cays, located between the mainland and Roatan. Roatan Excursions will take you out on their boat for an all day trip at about $120 a person. Also, the French Cay is a really great way to spend a day. It has a small lodge and eco park on the small cay surrounded by beautiful turquoise water. It’s a very relaxing place to sit on the small beaches, kayak, eat, drink at the bar, and they have some rather exotic rescue animals there such as a pair of jaguars, various species of monkeys, and parrots and birds.

Roof Over Your Head:

It’s not a luxury destination in itself. You won’t find big resort style hotels here. Most hotels are small, but adequate. If you are staying longer than a week I suggest finding a vacation rental on VRBO.com or something similar. Most are fairly nice, simple, clean, and have your essentials. Roatan isn’t a place where you stay inside anyways!

Currency | Language:

The native language is Spanish, but most people there speak decent English. Currency is the Honduran Lempira.

Why recommend West Bay Beach, Honduras?

The 84 degree air and ocean is perfect for anyone that loves to spend their days on the sand and in warm, clear water. A perfect getaway for diving enthusiasts and general beach bums. You can take ferries to the neighboring island, Utila, a backpackers getaway, or even to the mainland of Honduras to make your way into Central America.
