Ski and Snowboard in Tahoe, California - Bucket List check! - Full blog post on TravelBreak.netI know you love San Fran and Big Sur, but did you know you can ski and snowboard in the Sunshine State? Easily a weekend experience, ski in Tahoe for 24 hours, or book a week as an alternative Spring Break!

Here are my best experiences on things to do when you Ski in Lake Tahoe:

1. Take on the Blue Slopes, Tahoe Ski Style!

“You’re a survivalist, I know you’re getting down that mountain one way or the other” my ski instructor said. It was only my second day skiing, but I realllllllly wanted to take on the intermediate slopes. A former Olympic playground, everyone knows that the “intermediate” slopes in Tahoe are advanced in other places.

So he agreed to my sliding and tumbling down the mountain, as long as we’d stick together. I survived. Then had a beer with friends.

If you can get your bum up at 5am, it’s definitely worth catching the sunrise over the snow white haven of Lake Tahoe. It’s absolutely freezing, so dress warmly, but you’ll be walking on sunshine when you’re walking on snow.

I suggest wearing more than this. It’s so cold this early in the morning. If you want to pack lightly or don’t have snow clothes of your own, you can also rent ski clothes with Get Outfitted. It’s like rent the runway for outdoor and sports.

3. Fuel up on carbs for your snow adventures.

Best Restaurants in Lake Tahoe:

Terrace at High Camp – Mid your Tahoe ski ride, take the lift to the top of the mountain for a breath-taking view. Have the sweet potatoes! And the fish tacos :)
Christy Hill in Tahoe City – I had beet ravioli which was incredible.
Uncorked in Tahoe City – Recommended by locals; I didn’t get a chance to experience it myself.
